After the rain is before the storm
König Ludwig winding tower shaft 2 at the end of the 1950s
The pit was named after the Bavarian King Ludwig II. The shareholders followed the then customary homage of nobles and Ludwig II of Bavaria was "turning". Shaft 2 was sunk from 1889. But it was not until 1894 that mining began. Unfortunately, there were repeated firedamp explosions with a total of 42 deaths (eight in 1886, eleven in 1891, ten in 1893, ten in 1901, three in 1910 and 17 in 1940). There were also fatalities due to spilling (two in 1910, four in 1916), one in 1916 in a conveyor accident and three in 1953 in a broken line. This shaft was shut down in 1961. Today the facility has largely been demolished. Various companies have found their home in the remaining company buildings.
The illustration was created from an old black and white photograph. Locomotive and wagons and the weather situation were “composed” by myself.
As with almost all of my illustrations, I work from the background to the foreground.
