Blast furnace tapping
The Rheinhausen steelworks in the 1960s
A blast furnace knows no public holidays, not even at Christmas. Pig iron is produced there every day. The steelworkers in Rheinhausen did their hard work in shifts until 1993. Several times a day and also at night there is a special "gift giving" not only on Christmas Eve. When the blast furnace is tapped, a glow is created that dramatically illuminates the night sky. On August 15, 1993 at 9:44 a.m. the last blast furnace in Rheinhausen went out and the age of "steel boiling" was irretrievably over after almost 100 years.
As with almost all of my illustrations, I work from the background to the foreground.
She was drawn on an Apple iPad Pro 12.9 using Adobe Fresco and Kyle T. Webster's famous brushes.
