A "sunny" day at the Victoria Mathias colliery
The Victoria Mathias colliery in Essen.
1842 Start of mining at the Mathias shaft. 1901 Commissioning of Shaft II. 1922 Acquisition by Rheinische Westfälische Elektrizitätswerke (RWE) to secure their coal-fired power plants. In 1965, the coal crisis that had persisted since 1958 forced RWE to stop coal mining at the last RWE colliery, Victoria Mathias, in Essen. Today, the RWE data center is located at the site. On the left, a former Prussian T9.1 is shunting in front of the machine house of shaft II. In the middle of the picture, a former Prussian T3 is waiting for further tasks.
As with almost all of my illustrations, I work from the background to the foreground.
